ABSOLUTELY OUR CHOICE

For the Brain

                    Questions that need honest answers;

                  . What do my eyes see often and for
                     extended hours?
                  . What do my ears listen to that I tend
                     to believe?
                  . Where do my feet frequent to, places
                                                         I enjoy to visit?
               . What are the foods I usually feed my body with & give
                     good tastes to my palate?
                  . Who do I frequent going with and allow my
                     emotions to be greatly affected?
                  . What are the favorite things & hobbies I spend
                     most of my precious time?
                  . What are the memories that I love to recall and
                     stay longer in my consciousness?
                  . What established rules in my home, school and
                     government that I love to follow and hate others?

                   Your personal answers shape your physical stature,
                        your brain and your choices...,  just like mine.

                  . because what we allow ourselves to see, all gets into
                     our brain.
                . what we see and hear determine what we understand.
                  What we believe show precise power or limits that
                   will drive our life and its destiny.
                  . what goes into our mouth can be harmful like junk
                     foods and nutrients to build tissues and muscles
                  . our frequent companions define our character. Evil
                     friends corrupt while good association blesses.
                  . physical exercise helps the body's health but
                     gambling and all games of chance are rottenness to
                     life and resources.
                  . what we feed our minds defines our soul's health or
                     illness.
                  . obeying legal authorities and established rules bring
                     rewards and happiness while rebellion is sinful like
                                                        witchcraft.

                     Law of divine establishments like the government,
                     marriage, family and freedom are truths in the
                     physical realm. These all originated from Creator
                     God to be observed by any human kind on earth.

                                    The choices are yours...are ours... are mine...

The brain is the portion of the central nervous system which is the principal regulating ganglion
     of invertebrates, an internal organ which all activities of man are processed & interpreted.
(Next, i will blog on the choices of the mind that defines the whole person, please watch for it)

The Character called "Self-Control"

         Lots of people have been entering my mind including myself.  Over and over I evaluate my own life.  What a tremendous potentials God had loaded each of the normal human being.  How exciting and meaningful a life can be in these varied environments and experiences.  However everyone  when reaching that responsible age must learn to exercise, accept & practice self-control.

        These two children inside the dentist's clinic both came for tooth extraction.       Both were 11        years old accompanied by their respective mother.  One, graciously listened to her mother's voice and instructions from the dentist.  The result: she immediately was relieved from toohache; she got better looking teeth and gave happiness to her companions.  The other girl was the exact opposite.  She vented her anger to her mother for forcing her to visit a dentist.    She screamed, shout, cry and         moved uncontrollably until the doctor chose not to do with the procedures. Every so often her teeth problem resurface and the common arguing with family members seems endless.

       Let's view their home life. Both are girls aged 11 years old, from two different families.  The       obedient girl hails from a middle income father.  She is surrounded by an unconditional love of      parents.  She doesn't get all of her wants but her parents made sure that basic needs are given to her.  Her parents have clear rules inside the house for her to follow.  They made sure that she      understands her responsibilities and role as a dependent young girl since the time that she can be taught during childhood.   She  has  a  happy  environment where tolerance for mistakes are                considered and lots of mentoring with real life modelling are displayed.  Her parents made sure they live out what they expect from their daughter.  Turned out she's the most happy and responsible child,  growing pleasantly and very respectable.  She listens well,  follows   their  instructions and knows how to establish goals with success.  She's very proud of how her dad loves her mom very much and she too! She's growing very  contented and appreciative.

        With regards to the second girl, she is exposed to violence ever since she has recollection. She also has a middle-income family. Her parents are fighting almost everyday.  Every time they fight, she's left alone  hiding for fear they'll vent anger upon her.  Many nights they forgot to eat supper and she went to  sleep sobbing unknown to her parents.  She keeps hatred inside her heart but the anger that's boiling inside is very evident with her.  She learned to curse at an early age just like her mom and dad.   At her very young age, she can tell lies very normally every time she commits mistakes in defense of herself from different kinds of punishments like letting her kneel on salt; locking inside her room for hours or telling her all kinds of negative comments...There are lots of discouragements more than the love and acceptance she is supposed to be enjoying from her own parents.  It was very hard for her to  love and respect others because of her environment in the home.
          What a relief when her parents separated and she was left to the care of her aunt who taught her the life of grace.  She learned that God through Jesus Christ has died for every human sin and any one who believes in God has the power residing inside.  An eleven  year old mind understood God's word reflected in the life of her aunt.  It was very touching when she confessed her sins to God and expressed her love to do what is right.  Everyday she writes a letter to her parents concerning her new found joy.  She kept all letters inside a box believing that one day her parents  will return to her.  Meantime, she is becoming very peaceful, happy and in control of herself.  She forgot all the   tantrums and is learning the true character bit by bit  which makes her more pleasant to be with.   She now appreciates rules and follow them.  She now has goals for the day and making bigger goals for her future because of her faith in God.  She could not fully express how thankful she is for her aunt who untiringly taught her not to be spoiled but have self-control.
                                                        -o-

                                   There is hope for every child put in care of the right person!

GETTING FOCUSED

Adjustments

                    Have you experienced moving to another place to
 stay for good?  Most do! Children & young people especially the outgoing type easily find their niche & pals in a new neighborhood or school and workplace.  Very seldom these younger ones are distressed the way older do. Both however, miss and desire to return back from where they used to live &  grow   where the memory lingers on, if that will be possible.

                         Battling emotions is hard for others & easy for some.  Good for the practical men & women who always are looking for positive things in their new abode.  The melancholy type personality usually will take longer days to cope.  It is always necessary for them to find someone to listen to about their woes and busy themselves in chores then adjustment follows.

                        New neighbors who extend a warm welcome for
the new comers & residents really help & show great hope & encouragement.  Classmates who befriend the new enrollees shun lots of fears & anxiety.       Co workers who accept their new
officemates will make a great difference in their lives.  Church people who show acceptance to new faces & visitors by sharing Bible and songbook means a lot.  Imagine, for a little discomfort and little effort to show compassion and smile in helping people adjust, you have eased the burden, brought courage, laughter & new beginnings...for others.  Just a little time for others, who knows we will find another real friend, if not, there is nothing to lose, we gain an acquaintance. ^O^

Expressing my Thoughts in Poetry 1

THE HAND

When life gets tough, STOP!
Take a while, look inside.
Unceasingly, there is the Hand    that guides;
Almost always, we give no heed.

Sighing to the worlds care,
yet dangling on its thrills beside.
Unnoticed, leading to the brink;
Exhausted, lame, confused.

Gratefully, man has a secret place
The heart to keep its agonies, the woes.
Playing safely secured, hypocrisy that is;
Crumbling in sorrows but deceiving self.

HUSH! The Hand that molds and guide,
Never forsakes us, never gets tired.
Always inviting gently 'rest my child';
"in My gentle Hand and secured arms abide."

His Hands clasp mine and yours!

I wrote this on 7/21/2007. I hope you will be blessed. "Jesus Christ said, 'come to Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light."- Matthew 11:28-30

An Optimistic Mind and A Conqueror

"a merry heart doeth good like a medicine."- Proverb 17:22

Mr. Minte told of his life experiences.  He said since childhood he knew and was taught about the reality of the proverb by King Solomon in the Bible.  Yet as he was growing up and hardships began to over take his life, the joy of living eloped from him. He was not taking charge but his problems and difficulties were the focus of his mind.  Nevertheless,  despite the obstacles, he finished college but not being well prepared, he landed as a company security guard for a living.  He was enrolled at night in a college of law because he wanted to become a lawyer.  During his sophomore year,  he met a lady which he ended marrying, bore children that made him quit from the law school.  Unknown to the family and his friends, this made him very discouraged and angry. The smiles and laughter were only pretensions which in the later times he could no longer hid.  He ignored his family let alone made decisions by himself that produced very devastating results.  He became very addicted to the lottery and gambling that his house was taken by the sheriff.  He lost the family's house when he mortgaged for a sum of money to meet his and family's pressing needs.  As the family grew large, his income remain small and his inner struggles continued deep within. However, in all of his crazy decisions, his wife remained faithful, caring for them and kept still. She taught their children to respect and listen to their father.  She taught them to be thankful to their meager income and to study hard in school.

           Mr. Minte continued to be a strange person to his family and never shared a thought.  Until one day, he was very weak and lost consciousness while doing his job.  His co-workers rushed him to the emergency unit in a government hospital.  He was confined for several days until he recovered.  All the while his good wife was beside him, gently making sure she understood the doctors advise and prescription for her husband.  This got his attention and compassion.  Upon reaching home, he vent his anger upon himself and cried very loudly or the first time during his adulthood.  All of his misgivings were exposed which turned out to be the cure for his lost happiness.  The following day, he was already talking to his children.  He fought hard his pride until he was able to say sorry and asked forgiveness from his wife, children and friends.  He began to be interested again in the intricacies of life and people around him.  He started to value his work and co-workers.  He started to open up his problems and visions as well. Fortunately, he never struggled giving up his addiction to gambling. It was automatic that when he strengthened things out in his life, the vices never attracted him anymore. He could not thanked enough the example of his beloved wife.

              He called his hospital experience as God's 'blessing in disguise.'  In fact he admitted that almost all trials in his life were meant to call his attention to return to God and for a godly living.  He acknowledged that all life's battles are only in the mind.  Win or lose- depends mostly upon his choices.  Fear and Courage depend on what his mind believes. He decided do the right thing in the right way and so brought back his lost life.  All that they purposed in their hearts, the family consulted the Lord Christ first and were willing to be guided by the Holy Spirit then the turn around happened.   He no longer is enslaved by the game of chance and outbursts of anger.  His face started to regain the long lost smiles and happy laughter. His eyes became brightly smiling in optimism He enjoyed the company of real friends again, those that warned him of his evil habits.  He enjoys his work until the present and during weekend helps his wife in their small banana cue business.  All their five children are in harmony and enjoy their school and home life.  It's true problems and trials don't go away, but this time Mr. Minte has the discernment and the courage to face every situation.  He had committed to that one goal, of making life better and meaningful for everyone, to him and for the glory of God! To swallow pride and make right decisions are worth it all!

         How many of us experienced or are experiencing the same as what happened to Mr. Minte?.  There is always time to be transformed.  Begin with God and act upon His system of rules.  Live it out!

Trail of Tears

Hard realities in life strike at those unwary and unsuspecting hours

In one month's time or so, I came face to face with three couples whose son's life ended differently but all tragic in human terminology.  They were all in their twenties envisioning to get a good life and augment their respective family needs. They all wanted to bring ease and quality life to their loved ones especially their parents.

A stone's throw from my church is the house of  Tony.  He was senior in high school at twenty years old. He was joggling janitorial job and school at the same time.  One rainy night he came home and heard the voice of his little puppy wrenching in pain.  He found the puppy groping for breath stack in a hole full of mud at their backyard.  Without any hesitations, Tony reached out for the poor puppy.  He forgot about his bruised hands due too much scratching from mosquito bites.  The puppy was very happy.  She crept lovingly at Tony's and kept licking his hands as the pet's way of gratitude that she was rescued from real suffocation by her master.  Tony spent quite sometime to pet the soft wool of his puppy until she kept still, forgot the trauma from the dark hole and slept soundly.

A week later Tony had an on and off fever, sometimes trembling uncontrollably, feeling cold and very thirsty.  His jaw locked and hated to drink water.  He was rushed to the hospital but it was too late.  He was positive for rabies that caused his untimely demise.  The anti rabies vaccine and other medicines did not work after the diagnosis.  His younger brother who shared Tony's meal  also was found rabid but fortunately survived. This brought too much weight of grief  to his parents until today.

Ferdinand was the 23 year old gentleman, an only child and no doubt very talented.  As to physical features, he was tall and handsome.  He was the image of a son that every parent  wishes to grow being responsible and sensible.  At his young age, Ferdinand was already reaping the fruit of his labors and a family provider which is very rare who hailed from the province.  He was an industrial engineer.  He was top 2 during the national board exams and in a short time became a regular employee of the regional government with his own office and staff.  Ferdinand was on his way to realizing his many dreams especially for his future. He was desirous to build a comfortable house for his parents but was cut short .  He was found dead lying under the durian tree almost unrecognizable.  Every part of his visible body was bloated because of bees sting.  Being a very hard working man, even during holiday he reported to his office for some research assignment.  On his way home there was the tree where a hive of biting wild bees settled.  There was no more time to take him to the hospital, his body was ice cold and  stiff as hard as a log although wet. He was black and blue all over. The only thing that the officemates recognized, who found him the day after was the native necklace he always wore and the shirt identified as of Ferdinand.  The autopsy result however disclosed that the cause of his death was allergy from insects sting.  Friends pushed each other as to who will reveal this fearful news to his parents.  Unbelievable and they tried to ignore their story but true.  It shattered their world and the pain brought about by his death is beyond words they can relate.

Still another young man who is more closer is Billy.  For several times and occasions visited our church because some youth members were his college classmates.  Billy is junior in college taking up elementary education.  It's obvious he loved small children.  He was a magnet to kids and he always had an exciting story to tell.  Billy was particularly a silent person,  he was a little bit shy which he overcame by his kindness and helpful built-in character. He was studying on a night school. During the day he helped his mother bake and delivered food stuffs to small stores.  At that particular Saturday, he went to the beach store riding on his motorbike.  When he went home at 5:00 in the afternoon, an 18-wheeler truck collided, throwing him and his motor bike on opposite directions, 1-meter apart from the road.  Nobody was around to witness that was why he was found 4 hours later when it was already dark all around  The truck driver escaped but fortunately a man nearby heard a loud sound which he told was like a shot of a magnum caliber.  The man got so nervous, he went to another house and invited a neighbor. They went and investigated what he heard about 4 hours ago.  There, poor Billy was alive but was so mangled,  his ribs were all broken, both legs were gone, face was crashed and tongue was cut, lying on his own blood.  What a pity to describe.  Worst was the small clinics in several towns refused to admit him. It took two hours to finally reached the hospital where an hour later he was pronounced dead.  His family and friends were so shocked at the sudden death of  Billy. Life in their house will be different for as long as Billy's presence is gone.

Their deaths, the separation and emotional distress dominated these three homes

I felt my words were of little significance for them but not God's word.  The hugs, the touch, the care, the tears and throngs of people carrying comfort brought great reliefs to their troubled souls.  God's word brings salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Stability and lost joy are restored.   Up until this writing, I still pray hard how to act when I have the chance to visit or meet any of these 3 couples.  The process of recovery from their deepest emotional wounds might be long, or might be underway depending on their faith and acceptance.  However, each can contribute to emotional healing when we know how to pray and when our loving presence is felt when they needed most.  Gripping cold empty hands because of loneliness means a lot for the bereaved especially cases like those of Tony, Ferdinand and Billy.  Your presence will do encourage people experiencing the same,  to keep living and move on.  Be very sure to give the Gospel about the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If they listen and believe, it will give assurance that in the next life there will be never ending reunions with our loved ones for all eternity.  Let us give out that sure hope!

* I have changed the names of the 3 young people,  now in the beyond.  I am blogging real life stories
